Question:
Does anyone work for the USPS that has been approved for WLS?
I have worked for the United Stated Postal Service for 5 years. I am 5'4" tall and weight 320 pounds. I have a BMI of 55 and comorbidities or weight bearing joint aches, back pain, miagrains, my blood pressure has been slightly elevated recently, I also have gynocological problems. My family tree consists on MANY morbidly obese relatives including my mother, younger sister, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc... What I wanted to know is what are the chances that I will be approved for this WLS? I want my health back and — Elaine W. (posted on September 8, 2002)

Yes--I have worked for the USPS for 21 years and have BCBS. I had no
trouble being approved. Knowing how the USPS is about sick leave, ask for
FMLA. This is not suppose to be held against you. Also, Lap reauires oly
a 2 week recovery and you are back to work with restrictions. My surgery
is Nov. 7. Good luck and my prayers will be with you.

Hi Elaine, I also work for the USPS. We have NALC/First Health PPO and had
no trouble getting approved. My start weight was at 258 and am down to
184. Couldn't be happier! From what you describe above about your
background, I can't see that you'll be disapproved. Good Luck!
