Question:
Does everyone have excess skin?
Hi I been reading about the excess skin left after weight loss, and I was just wondering if everybody got it. I'm 19, 320 lbs, and I'm mixed race. I've heard that people with darker skin have more elasticity in the skin that fair skinned people, is this true or is it a myth? thank you jeni — Jeni M. (posted on August 30, 2002)

I am very fair and I have excess skin. It looks like a
fanny pack: around my hips and continues to my abdomen and that lops over
my pubic area (doesn't cover it up though). If I could get rid of the
excess skin on my stomach I would be 2-3 sizes smaller. My arms look like I
could fly and my poor boobs ... ugh, they used to point toward heaven, now
they point to my toes and they are flat. I am SO glad I had this operation
though and do not regret it for one minute. I started out at 258 lbs. and
I have lost 117 and I'm 5'3.

hi there! i am pretty fair skinned. im 5 9 and started at 370 now down to
aprox 337 or less ,dont know didnt weigh this week yet, any how, my skin is
starting to do the saggin thing YUK i do not regret this surgery at all
before i was in anywere from a 6x to 8x im now moving into an xl depending
on the style, we all know how that goes! i would fit more conmfy into an xl
if it werent for this exsess gut i got goin on im scared to do anything
strenous with my abdomen as i dont want a hernia. but i sure wish there was
a way to tone up this stuff. i do think you may have more elastisity being
that you have more melonin in your skin plus your young. im 32 and even at
32 doc said alot of it should bounce back into place but i dont think all
of it will. best of luck to you !

From what I've read on this site, the younger you are helps with the excess
skin. With you being 19 and maybe beginning an exercise program as soon as
allowed after surgery your excess skin may not be so bad. Good Luck and God
bless!
