Question:
I can feel my heartbeat through my whole body, is the normal?
Since losing weight after surgery last year I began to feel my heartbeat about 3 inches to the left(my left) of my bellybutton. When I would lay at night it seemed to beat through my whole body and I would have to try to find a position where it wasn't so strong. Since then I feel it practically all the time in fact if I am wearing a snug fitting shirt I can actually see it. The one night my hubby woke me to make sure I was okay because he could hear it. I was laying on my belly and it seemed to be echoing through the mattress. I asked my doctor about it a few months ago, she did not even check it she just said it was probably some sort of echo from losing weight(does that make sense at all?) and not to worry about it. If anyone has had this of heard of it I would appreciate any advice. Thanks Debbie — dream_small (posted on August 28, 2002)

Did your doctor do anything; an ultrasound or ekg? My uncle has a serious
cardiac condition and he was felt his heartbeat in his stomach. It could be
nothing in your case, but I would check again with the doctor (or perhaps a
new doctor) to be on the safe side.

I would find another doctor and get a second opinion. I don't think this is
anything to fool around with. Something is NOT right.

I have also noticed that I can "see" my heartbeat on my stomach.
I think its just because the big aortic artery runs right below it and it
was hidden by all that extra fat, now we can see it and feel it a bit more.
If its a normal rythym and not racing, I wouldn't worry about it.

I have this feeling too. I don't think it is that big of a deal. The one
answer about the over 125 is correct, the normal resting pulse rate is
70-80. My husband averages 80-100 and is on blood pressure med for it. Good
luck, and don't worry!
