Question:
How do you add dry milk to increase protein intake?
My doctor has suggested using dry milk by adding to food to increase protein intake. I have never used dry milk at all. How do I do this? Do I add it dry or make it milk? Why make it milk if I am already using milk? (Like puddings) How much dry would I add if using it dry? Any help would be great as my surgery is Wednesday August 28th. — Linda K. I add about 1/2c. dry-nonfat-milk to 1 packet of s.f. cocoa mix, stir in
3c. hot water. Yum. (1-2 times per day :-)
(ok...we are not supposed to have caffeine, but I do add 1-2 oz. of coffee
to it & quite often, that is DECAF coffee.)

Helpful hint (warning): Try some milk without the added dry milk powder
first. You'll want to know if you're one of us unfortunates...the post-ops
who are lactose intolerant. Believe me, before I realized I really was
lactose intolerant, I added some extra dry milk powder to my NSA Carnation
Instant Breakfast...and yowza!!! were the cramps and gas pains killer! Best
of luck to you on your surgery:) - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -55lbs.

I use dry milk as a creamer in my decaf coffee, I add it to
meatloaf and meatballs before cooking, and I also use it in
soups and chili. You can make creamy smoothies with it as
well.
