i dont rem the exact dates but they started me as follows with open rny: protein drink / water then after few days..liqids...broth, jello, pudding etc..then soft processed foods...like cottage cheese scrambled eggs, blended soups...then after about a month ...anything that agreed with me soft and slow...slowly workin up to "normal" foods...i think it was about 2 months before i tried a salad..but if you can eat it and chew it well good for you!!! But i went by exactly what the dr told me..i didnt want to have a problem that I CAUSED MYSELF...good luck

I had my first salad at 5 weeks post-op. Yum!! Just be sure to chew anything crunchy very well. I actually avoided crunchy early on and put lettuce, tomato, cucumber (skin removed), kidney beans, hard boiled eggs, onion and cheese in the salad. Grilled chicken on top-yum! Still one of my favorites and chock full of protein.

At 2 months it may be a little early, I am at 4 months and still have problems with lettuce. We are all different though, you may want to try a very small amount to see how well it works for you. I do miss my salads with grilled chicken. I am sure further on, I will be able to eat lettuce again. Best of luck to you

For us salad was added at 12 weeks- I have never had a problem with it, but remember that it doesn't have anyprotein, so be sure to add some..tuna, chicken, cottage cheese, beans, chess... :) Happy losing!

Well I am also 2 mths out, and just last sat. purchase a wendys salad with the chicken, i came home and split the salad in two, and put 1/2 in refrig. for the next day. I chewed very well and it tastes great. I only used a 1/3 of the dressing in the little pack each time, and they also have a ff french i believe ( that is what i asked for, but didnt get). I figure for 4.00 and i get two meals out of it,its not a bad deal. Next time i will have a chicken breast already made up to increase my protein.

I am 8 weeks post op. I had a grilled chicken salad for lunch today. Well, okay, I ate 1/2 of it at lunch than the other 1/2 for dinner :) I've been eating lettuce for 2 weeks now. I've been on a tuna (the new bag one),Kraft ff chedder cheese, light mayo and lettuce combo kick, and it's been yummy. I haven't had any problems. Good luck and enjoy your salad.

First shred or chop all the salad up. Once you eat more it will get better.

Gloria, I am almost 2mo., and I had my first salad last week. It was great. Just chew everything well and you'll be fine. FYI: I have one trick I learned about salad dressing. I am one who cannot hack fat free dressing. I'm sorry, but I can't. Pre-surgery, I would dip the tip of my fork in the dressing and then spear my salad with the fork. I found that with a one ounce cup of dressing, well over half was left when I got finished. See, I got the taste, and omitted tons of calories that I would have gotten by pouring it on.

Before surgery I hated salad, now it is my favorite food. I add shredded cheese and a quater cup of sunflower seeds, and some boiled eggs to add about 20 grams of protein.
