Question:
Has anyone lost calcium from their teeth or bones post-op because they are unable to
take in enough calcium? I take calcium supplements every once in a while, because I have to be careful since I form kidney stones when I take in too much. But the last few days, my teeth hurt all the time, all of them. I am a nurse and know that in some circumstances such as pregnancy, your body will pull stored calcium from your bones and teeth if you dont take enough in. But I guess I am asking this question to see if anyone has experienced this and what they did to make things better. By the way I am 28 years old and brush, floss, and flouride rinse so I shouldnt have bad teeth already. I would appreciate any information. Thanks! — Cory F. (posted on July 25, 2002)

Hi Cory, you said you take calcium supplement every once in awhile? You
need to be taking Calcium CITRATE everyday!! Are you taking other
vitamins..Iron, Multivitamin, A&D B-12 shots,things like that? I saw
your profile..RNY 7/01...Have you not been taking supplements the whole
time? If not you should start now and get a full body dexascan to check
bone density, Vitalady explained to me that this is the best exam to
meausre the condition of your bones..not the heel or wrist way.

Yes. A staggeringly high percent of us will lose bones or teeth. Are your
kidney stones oxalate stones? If so, avoid carbonate & go directly to
calc citrate. The weight loss ITSELF is enough to trigger bone loss, but
combined with virtually no calcium intake, it is a recipe for disaster.
