Question:
I want to give you my stats and see if there's anyone else in the same boat as I am
Almost 9 months post op, lap rny, started out 286 and weighed in today. Have only lost 90 pounds. Feel bad now. I have only lost one pound in the past three weeks. BUT I am exercising every day for 50 minutes and could it be that I'm building muscle as I go along and that's what's slowing this process down? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy but thought I'd see more results by now. I feel great. Do I have any one out there whose the same as me, slow at losing? Am I doing something wrong? — Annie H. Girls, I am in the same boat as you are...."queen of snail
losers" I know how fusterating this can be so maybe we can stick
together on this and help each other out .... when the going gets tough we
must get tougher...... maybe we should increase our protien, excerise and
water....I beleive our bodies are catching up with the rapid weight loss
and thats why we are plateauing alot. I think you both are doing
fabulous!!!!!

H. I am post-op so take my comments with a grain of salt, but I am here
reading everyday...from what I have read here, I believe that if you are
not grazing (which would obviously slow the weight loss down) then you may
not be eating enough protein and your body thinks its starving, hence
causing what you are eating to be stored differently. As for the muscles
enlarging...that could also be it, but I would venture to ask what types of
excercising are you doing? It would all depend on that. Maybe changing your
routine from day to day would help prevent ganing from muscle. Hope this
makes sense..

Hi, Annie, you didn't say how tall you were/ I am 5'6" and I started
out at 258 lbs. My surgery was 9/27/01/ (lap rny) revision from stomach
stapling/ it has been 10 months and I have lost 95 lbs. But I am only 10
lbs from my Dr.'s goal, and 20 from my personal goal/ I found that I would
go several weeks and not lose anything, and then lose like crazy for the
next few weeks, we are all different, and as long as you are doing
everything as best you can, don't worry about it, as long as you are
losing!!!

Hi Annie, I am almost 8 months post op, Distal open RNY. 5'3 started at
278lbs, Now weigh 193. lost 85lbs. only lost 2lbs since June..actually I
was at 195, then gained to 199 then lost to 197, up to 198 down to 195 now
going down again. Hmmmm, strange, huh! I guess I am considered a slow
loser...but I am happy because my skin is shrinking up nicely, probably
won't need that TT or THigh lift..the arms..well we will see! anyway, I
lost the first 78 lbs without exercising AT ALL. So I consider that my free
WL. I started walking a mile a day and doing some weight work with my arms
a few weeks ago, I know that at 6-7 months out I heard things will slow
down. Our bodies are taking a rollercoaster ride and sometimes they react
by holding onto weight for a while..If you feel that you are doing the
right amount of water and protien and are not overdoing the cabrs and are
exercising regularly...shake things up..change you exercise program...eat a
few more carbs(just for a few days) add one more glass of water...If you
are not doing eerything the best you can...do it now. I believe we are in
the part of our WL journey where we are required to give more effort than
before. Don't worry to much...You sound just like me and when I worry about
the scale..the inches are coming off, then the scale starts moving again.
By the way I am in Maryland too, who did your surgery?

Hi Annie, I'm almost 9 mo p/o also. And a slow loser. But I was also a LW
which I believe explains the slow loss. If we were still losing about 10
lbs. a month we would be worrying that it wouldn't slow down in time before
we get to goal. I think that it is a good thing that it is really slow at
this point. By 6 mo. p/o I had lost about 75 lbs., and now almost 3 months
later my loss is at 86. It really slowed down!! I know its just not as
fun watching the scale trickle down so slowly, but it is still going in the
right direction. We will get there!

Hey there! Boy do I know how you feel. I am a very slow loser, I have lost
106 pounds in a little over a year. But from November to February I only
lost a few pounds. I thought I would go crazy. But I really researched
and figured out that I am very sensitive to carbs. I cut out most of the
carbs that I hadnt considered like pasta and crackers. (I dont do the no
carb thing because I think it is dangerous.) I also increased the amount of
protein I take in and changed my exercise routine around. It seems as if
it is working. Im still losing even though it is slowly.
The closer you are to goal the harder it is to get the last bit of weight
off. I am 30 pounds from goal and have to really work at it. But this is
the closest to normal I have ever been. Good luck to you!!!

Muscle does weigh more, so with your exercising, that would explain some of
it. 90 pounds in 9 months is pretty awesome, by the way. I have lost 70
in 6 months and have played with the same 2 pounds for weeks now. With a
back injury I am fighting, I had to give up exercise for the past few weeks
and that is certainly not helping. I found that exercise always jump
started a plateau. Just hang in there and keep up the exercise. Plateaus
happen to all of us..
