Question:
Okay I've got a good one!!
An inch or so from my incision...There is a sore spot that feels like a pencil head trying to come through the skin?? The area has been sore for awhile now. Any suggestions. At two weeks I ask the Dr. and he laughed and said he probably left something in there...Could this maybe be staples?? — Mary H. (posted on July 13, 2002)

mary was ur incision closed with internal stitches? if so, it could be a
stitch that has not dissolved & is trying to work its way out. my
surgeon tells his patients that if this happens & the stitch makes its
way to the top & outside of the skin, NOT to pull it out but to take
very sharp scissors & cut the protruding end off as close to the skin
as u can get without cutting urself. i had 2 stitches do this but before
they were able to work themselves out of my skin they finally dissolved.
good luck!

Probably sounds like a silly question, but... how long after the surgery
before you can shower? Does that happen at the hospital (I'm looking at
RNY open). Thanks..

Hi! I too, have this pointy little pokey thing about an inch above my
incision. My doctor says that he *thinks* it is just some fluid
accumulating, and to not worry about it. It will either be absorbed, or
burst, at the top of my incision and drain. I have had this since I was 2
weeks post-op. (Now 4 weeks) and it seems to be reducing in size.
Checking with your Dr. would probably be a safe bet, and if he jokes, tell
him to be serious! :) Best of luck to you!
