Question:
I am craving (and eating) cheese and I am only two weeks post -op
I melt a serving size of low - fat cheese in my soups , since I am on a liquid diet for the next six weeks... is this okay... I have a feeling my doctor would not approve. has anyone else had these cravings.. is this going to put a halt to my weightloss? I did not eat anything at all today, because I was freaked out by my need for cheese. — gloria M. (posted on June 26, 2002)

Gloria, you can always call and check with your doctor. I am 2 weeks
post-op and eat a small piece of cheese everyday however, it is o.k. with
my doctor. Good Luck

Cheese is great protein, I am almost 4 weeks post-op and eat cheese quite a
bit, i love it! I love carbs, and we can't have too many, so I eat cheese
instead. I just try to watch the fat with it, b/c it can be fattening, so i
try to use low-fat whenever I can, and you are doing good by using the
same! I have lost almost 35 pounds so far, so it has not halted my weight
loss what-so-ever! goodluck to you!!

Hi :) I'm 3 weeks post-op and I eat a little bit of cheese just about every
day. I like to put a slice in my omlette or scrambled eggs. My list said
it's ok to have it (low fat), but just check with you're doctor in case.
One thing, though...too much causes some nasty stomach events due to the
new lactose intollerance for me..so beware :)

I lived on mozzarella string cheese soon after my surgery. You can chew it
to a bloody pulp and it still tastes good, plus it's got a decent amount of
protein in it. As with everything, check with your doc but I certainly
don't see a problem with it. Good luck!

First cheese is a great food, with lots of protein. Now about the low fat
only. I look at it this way, a new post op can eat so little what harm can
a little regular cheese do? For those who still have their gallbladder a
limited amount of fat is probably a good idea. Just to keep the gallbladder
working. I INTENTIONALLY ate fat as a new post op for this reason. But do
limit the quanties so you dont slow your loss....

I am two weeks post op and I have been craving milk and cheese big time! I
eat the PolyO string cheese. Small bites and chew chew chew. I haven';t
had any problems with that and doc says its good for protein.

Cheese is no problem. My doctor had me on pureed solid food the day I left
the hospital and I practically lived on about an ounce of Taco Bell pintos
and cheese each day for a few weeks. Mmm.

hiya! sounds just like me...at 2 weeks post op i went on a cheese (and
applesauce!) kick -- loved the sharp cheddar -- it kind of melts in your
mouth and yes it has fat but it also is high in protein. the only prob i
had was the gas it gave me but it wasn't painful (just loud and well, a
little smelly!) but oh well!
good luck!

I am now 2 months post op and have been eating cheese ever since I could
have a full liquid diet. My doctor says it is fine and a good source of
the protien we need.

Hi, Im 5 months out and -105 pounds. I eat cheese literally every day
since I dont eat much meat and tuna is a guaranteed pukefest, cheese is my
salvation for high quality protein. I buy it shredded and melt in on
refried beans, also I buy chunks, and cut up small pieces to munch on
during the day, I buy slice american at the deli and eat that on crackers,
I am a cheese queen. I also buy these little tiny pieces of garlic bread
that come in a bag, they are about the size of your finger, 60 cals each
and I melt a piece of baby swiss on it in the microwave, it is yummy city
and 7 g protein! Cheese is good for you and you do need some fat, otherwise
you cant absorb your fat soluable vitamins, and you hair and nails get drab
and lifeless. So eat away!
