Question:
How can I find out if the surgeon that I am considering has been sued for malpractice
...or had complaints filed with a medical association against him/ her? — Mariee H. (posted on June 19, 2002)

well, you can contact your state's department of health services, or the
american medical association. remember though, that just because a doctor
has been sued for malpractice or has complaints lodged against him/her,
this does NOT mean that they were guilty of the malpractice or the
complaint. people make all kinds of accusations against doctors and they
arent necessarily true. so be careful and ask a lot of questions if you're
in doubt.

Go to http://www.docboard.org. This provides information on providers from
various states

You could check with your state medical licensing board to see if the
medical license is in good standing and if their has been any disciplinary
action against your physician. Most state licensing boards allow you to
access this information on-line by entering the last name of your
physician.
