Question:
Can u use ur own therapist (LICSW) for an evaluation?
I've been seeing a therapist for 7 years, she's a licensed psychologist, not a psychiatrist. Can she do an evaluation for pre-surgery? Thanks for your help. Diane — Diane C. (posted on June 14, 2002)

Hi Diane. I just got done with my "Psych" test, & I use a
psychologist instead of a psychiatrist. I don't think it matters, but you
might want to check with your Doc first. Good luck :)

I used my therapist, a LSW (Licensed Social Worker), for my psych eval. It
shouldn't be a problem, but check with your doctor. One doctor I spoke to
actually preferred that I use my own therapist since they would know better
than a stranger could in a few visits if I were fit for surgery.

You have to check with your surgeon on that one. My surgeon has a
particular psychologist that he uses that is familiar with things
concerning MO patients but when I asked he let me use my own but provided
me with a letter to take to the physchiatrist outlining what the evaluation
was for and what he expected out of it.
