Open RNY: YOu are cut open for the procedure. Mine incision is from between
my breasts (just below) to my belly button.
Mine is a little longer than normal because I had my gall bladder removed
also.
I chose open to lap because I wanted my doc to know what was going on at
all times inside but it takes a little longer healing time. Also I had no
drains. No problems.

Ok...me again...to finish what I started...
<br>Rny: The stomach is stapled (transsected sometimes)and the lower
intestines are attached to the new stomach bypassing the smaller intestines
which are attached to the old stomach. There is distal, lot of intestines
are bypassed and proximal, a little is bypass. Mostly depending on doctor
and amount of weight you need to lose.

Your doctor can either do a lap or open RNY. A lap is used if you are not
extremely large. An open is used if you are. My surgeon started using a lap
on me but he had to change to an open. During an open RNY the surgeon will
cut you open in the center of your stomach just below the breast area to a
little above the belt line. They will staple a tiny pouch, approx one cc
and create a new digestive tract from your intestines that links this pouch
to your bowels. No food will enter your stomach. Digestive juices will
still form in your stomach and will intersect with your new digestive tract
as it enters your bowels. They staple your stomach on the outside which was
very painful for me to move but when they took the staples out most of all
my post-op pain went away.My doc took them out one week post-op. I returned
to work in two weeks doing physical labor and had minimal pain.IF you have
any questions, e-mail me.
