Hang in there! I am 20 days post op and still not feeling "back to
normal." I am sure it will be awhile before I do. However, I can
tell you that it gets a little better everyday. I promise!!!

Congrats on your surgery! I had open RNY 2/11/02, and I described how I
felt like you did...hit by a truck. I wondered why I did this, if I would
ever feel normal again. For me, it was about 2 weeks when I started to feel
a bit better, and was feeling MUCH better by about 4 weeks. You had major
surgery and your body is still trying to figure out what the heck happened.
:) I am now 15 weeks out and cannot believe the way I feel..it's amazing!
Take care and keep good spirits, pretty soon this will be only a memory.

I am so glad you are using this site as a sounding board! Hang in
there...it will get better!!! Don't fight your body in its healing
process. If you are tired, take a nap. Don't beat up on yourself. When
you feel OK, do something you enjoy and stop when you get tired. It is all
part of the new concept for many of us of "listening to our
bodies". I had surgery on May 1 and it wasn't until the 3rd week I
started feeling like myself. Make sure you are getting protein and
drinking your fluids. That helped me. Keep asking "us"
questions...we are here to help you!

You had major surgery and you will feel really tired for quite a long time.
Rest when your body is tired. I am 17 months post-op and I really only
started having some energy about 6 months ago. I've lost 112 lbs. and
finally feel great and even greater when I go clothes and can get into the
regular sized clothes. You will love it too and it's really something
great to look forward to. In the meantime, take it easy and do what the
doctor tells you to do and things will get better.

Well you HAVE been hit by a truck! All your body's resrouces have gone to
the scene of the accident to assess the damage. (Don't ever let your body
know you let this happen on purpose.) When I had my revision, I was only 12
# over goal wt, so I thought I was just gonna hop on that table, and run
right back out the door into my life. I was so much healthier than with my
original surgery and a boatload of comorbs. Oops. Same truck that hit you
hit me. I was very frustrated at still having to NAP up to 6 wks out. I
expected more of me. Sounds like you do, too. Cut yourself a little slack!
Drink yoru water, drink your protein, take your vites, do what they told
you, move a little, enjoy the slower pace while it lasts. You'll be back
in the fast lane in moments.

I'm a year out and that truck is still on me. ;) I'd sure like to know if
it will ever end. I'm sick of being sick and tired.

It took me about 8 weeks to feel normal and 10 to feel better than i did
before surgery. ---- Good Luck

Hi, I'm officially two weeks post-op open RNY with gall bladder removal,
and I'm feeling much better. I can get up and down stairs, in and out of
bed, but bending over to pick something up still bothers me a bit. I have
lost 14 pounds. My starting weight was 252 at 5'3" and now I'm 238
which thrills the heck out of me. The happy results on the scale is the
reason for all this discomfort, so I take it in stride. You will be
feeling better before you know it. Good luck!

that's been one busy truck. LOL i am 26 days post op and some days i feel
somewhat human, the other days i'm a zombie. i went out this morning to
breakfast and home depot and i am exhausted. it's noon, but my body thinks
it's bedtime so i will accomodate it. my dr said if you feel tired, sleep.
your body has been through a major major surgery. listen to your body (gee,
i should take my own advice).

7-weeks out and I'm just starting to feel a bit 'normal' with my
health...it's been a slow process and all I can say is that it gets a bit
better each day...it really does. I'm down 46 lbs. (at my 6-week check up)
and I can not believe how good that feels already. I'm breathing better
& all that good stuff. Is it easy? Heck no. It's been one heck of a
"truck" ride - I hear ya on that one. Due to the medical
necessity of my surgery and the life/death situation I was in, I certainly
agree this to be my one last chance for life. For someone doing this
simply for cosmetic reasons - I think it's crazy. This is a drastic, major
surgery that has really positive outcomes. The before and after pictures
are extremely enticing but what people do not talk as much about is the in
between parts. It's work - no doubt about it. It hurts - no doubt about
that either. Does it get better? I think so - it has for me over the past
seven weeks. Good luck to you, my friend - take your time in getting off
the couch and enjoy your time off...before you know it you'll be back in
the swing of things.

Its different for everyone. Some heal quicker than others. For me, I felt
better after 3 weeks and much better after 6-8 weeks. Give yourself the
time you need to heal.
