Question:
Anyone have absolutly no energy?
I am 2 weeks post op today from an open RNY. I barely have enough energy to raise my arms over my head. I am on a full liq. diet and I am supposed to take in 800 cal each day. I doubt I am getting in 300 as I have no desire or energy to eat. Any suggestions? PS; thank you all for this web site, without it I would be at a total loss. — Gina D. (posted on May 24, 2002)

Your biggest thing is to remember that you JUST had major surgery two weeks
ago. It will pass, just relax. I don't think anyone gets their protiens
or calories in the first couple weeks. Good luck in your journey! :)

The first four weeks I was so wiped I could barely roll over in bed! I was
miserable and depressed and thought I would never have energy again, had
made a horrible mistake etc. About week 4 I could stay awake almost a whole
day, and I just kept getting Better and better, now i am so full of energy
it's almost scary. I thought i had energy before surgery, I though I was
pretty mobile and active (for someone weighing 410 anyway) but oh my... and
this is just after losing 115, I can't even imagine how I'll feel after the
next 115. So hang in there, it doesn't seem like it now, but it gets soooo
much better! Give yourself a break!

I'm a year out with no energy! However remember you just came off a major
surgery. Any surgery is tramatic on the body. It will probally pass.
Especially when you can eat more.

Gina, your normal after just having had major surgery and not getting in
alot of nutrition. I felt the same way for the first month-6 weeks. When
I switched to solid food and ate more and the nausea subsided, I gained my
energy back. Now, 52 pounds later, I have lots more energy!

Force yourself to eat and get to 800 calories a day. I was just like you
in that I had no appetite and only ate 300 calories a day and that's what
made me so tired. It also stopped my weight loss. You have to get in
enough calories so your body doesn't think it's starving. I ate constantly
just to get to 800 calories.
