How soon after surgery can you stop worrying about postop complications ?
for example...blood clots or infection? — jennifer A. (posted on May 23, 2002)

My surgeon told me that concerning blood clots and pneumonia, we're not out
of the woods until we're home from the hospital for at least a week. He
told me to be sure to do leg exercises and breathing exercises through my
first week home.

I'm not sure where i heard it, I would guess on here. Blood clots are a
concern upto three months post op.

While in the hosp. right after my surgery I started a fever and my lung
capacity went down suddenly (I have asthma) they started treating me with
IV antibiotics and breathing treatments right away and everything was fine
within 24 hr. Also, I have a history of blood clots (legs) so I was
determined to walk plenty. But guess what, after a couple of days at home I
got a clot in my arm near my elbow! I went to my PCP he said it was not a
"deep vein clot" so I treated it with moist heat and it went
away.If your surgeon and PCP are diligent in your care as mine were you
don't have much to worry about. Just make sure to voice any concerns
post-op to your Dr. make them hear you.

I am 10 months post op and just home from the hospital. I had scar tissue
in my Non-functioning stomach that blocked it from draining. MAJOR PAIN.
