Question:
I am 2 weeks post op and I am missing water.
Does anyone know how long it is before we can drink water. I was a huge water drinker preop and I find that I can only drink little sips. Are you ever able to drink more water? — shannon W. (posted on May 19, 2002)

Yes, eventually you can drink normal mouthfuls. It's just now you need to
sip. AS your pouch normalizes (it's still mad at you), it will send the
water through more normally.

Shannon, as hard as it is to get it in...drink as much as you can!! It
will get easier as everything unswells and finds it's "new"
normal. Measure your intake to make sure you're getting all the water you
should. After suffering an infection and dehydration a week after surgery,
I know how important it is to SIP SIP SIP every ounce you need. I keep a
bottle with me at all times, and all my family and friends check to make
sure I'm drinking. You'll find your sips will become bigger. You're doing
great! Good luck! --Monica

I hear you, Shannon. When I was a new post-op, I missed water much more
than food, as my body has been used to a getting in a minimum of four
liters a day. Indeed, still keep drinking...I sipped all day, kept water
on my night stand (I still do this), and even have some water when I wake
up during the night. Bit by bit, you should be able to drink more and
more. I'm about 10.5 months post-op now and I can drink normal mouthfuls
and easily get in my 4+ liters a day. I sure it will happen for you as
well, bit by bit. Blessings to you.
