Question:
Pain control Q from Diane La Bathe
I was have been home for 5 days. I am in excruitating pain whenever I try to get out of bed or out of a chair. It's like someone sticking a knife into me at 2 of my scope points. I am still taking heavy pain medication which scares me. Has anyone else experienced such pain post lap RNY? Any hints for pain control?
Moderator note this question had a technical glitch which prevented its being approved. So I reposted under my name.
Diane please email me so this problem can be fixed. I am unable to find your profile.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I encourage the original poster Diane to call her surgeon RIGHT NOW and report the pain problem, just in case its serious. — bob-haller (posted on May 19, 2002)

Ahh it somehow dropped out of my post but she had surgery followed by a
second exploratory one 16 hours later to find the source of bleeding.
Diane this MIGHT be serious, contact your surgeon RIGHT NOW, just to be on
the safe side!

First of all, I suggest you call your doctor right away. I had this happen
right after a lap gallbladder surgery a few years ago. Luckily, it was
just a small amout of bleeding at the puncture site. But my doctor was
very concerned, he was afraid I was bleeding inside. So this could be
potentially something very serious, get it checked out before things become
worse. Good luck!!

Dear Diane,

I just wanted to let you know that I am experiencing the same symptoms you
described. (lap RNY, 5/15/02)

I was told that the pain was from my bowel being accessed and that time and
exercise will help me feel better.

HOWEVER, I will call my surgeon if it persists...

Best of luck, God Bless and feel better!

Diane, do you have any drains? This too happened to me at 4 and 5 days
post op. It ended up being that my drain had fallen into my pelvis. The
pain was unbearable. I couldn't sit, stand, breathe without crying out in
pain. The minute the drain was taken out, I was instantly better. Either
way I would call your surgeon immediately and find out what is wrong. I
wish you the best of luck!
