Question:
I am one year postop, and just recently started weight training and exercising ..
I have lost 92# so far. I have a personal trainer who showed me the correct way to do these exercises. As I was moving my middle trunk area, I noticed a knocking feeling right in my middle of gut. I was not painful, just weird, and I am afraid now. It felt like a rope going right across my gut and rubbing it...any input? Thanks, Carolyn — Carolyn G. (posted on May 11, 2002)

My guess would be that it is just the incision. If you haven't been
exercising that's why it feels weird. It could be scar tissue or something
like that. It could go away as you continue to exercise. I would ask my
doctor though.

Carolyn,
I started working out at the gym 3 weeks after surgery. I of course
started very lightly... only walking for about 5 or 10 minutes a day on the
treadmill and working myself up to more. I gradually added weights to my
training, also through a fitness trainer. I have experience some weird
sensations in my stomach through various types of exercises, but you just
have to listen to your body. I have skipped going to the gym... because I
just wasn't up to it. The feeling you experienced may sound unusual to
some, but I would say it is your new stomach and the new muscles you are
building up! Good for you! I had surgery December 18, 2003, and have lost
over 90lbs to date. Keep up the good work.
