Question:
Need to know how many ounces I should be eating!
Three months out and hungers back! PLEASE tell me how many ounces I'm suppose to be eating a day because I sure can't go by how full I feel. Need all the help I can get because I don't want to be a failure after going through this surgery. Thanks! — Bernice M. (posted on May 10, 2002)

I am pre-op, but during my consultation with the surgeon, he told me that
my food intake would be limited to 2-ounces per meal, or about 12 bites.
He told me that was three meals per day, no snacking in between meals.
That's 36 bites of food per day - not a lot! He said I must eat something
from each of the food groups each day - in other words, a balanced diet and
omit all high calorie, high fat foods. Hope this helps.

My dietician said to work up to a half cup, or 4 ounces of soft food
(pureed texture) per meal...3 or 4 meals per day. More solid stuff like
cottage cheese fill me up quickly. Liquids like water I can hold more as
they flow through. Longer term post-ops I know can eat more and are doing
well. I'm lost 30 pounds in the first 2 weeks, so it works for me.
