Question:
When is the soonest anyone has gone on vacation after Open RNY?

We have a trip to Hawaii planned for the end of June. I will be 7 wks post op. I was wondering if anyone had traveled that soon after surgery. -- Shannon    — shannon W. (posted on May 6, 2002)

I traveled to Las Vegas from Atlanta about 5 wks. postop. I didn't feel too strong but did OK. It was hard finding food I could eat and like but we had fun. I was tired a lot.

I traveled to Fl from SC at four weeks out. Got out of the car once per hour and walked around for 5 to 10 minutes. Took all my water, protein drinks, soft foods with me (it was a road trip) and did fine. I discussed it with my surgeon first and did major research to prepare for the trip. If you're planning to fly, be SURE you take all the precautions against blood clots........stay very well hydrated, get up frequently, wear compression stockings, exercise your legs in place while you are sitting. On some of the long flights, they actually show a series of exercises on the overhead monitors. Have fun.

I didn't go on vaction, but I drove by myself from IL to CA about 7 weeks after my surgery. Had no problems at all.
