Question:
Why would a revision's surgery not work as well as new surgery?
My doctor said I may not lose as much as I want because my surgery is a revision of an old gastroplasty. Why would this be so? He said there has not been sufficient research done in the matter. I've also read the same information. Any ideas from anyone out there? — Charlotte M. (posted on April 24, 2002)

My surgeon who revised me from my VBG to RNY in 5/00 told me the same
thing. He sited the fact that basically, your body has been there done
that already with the rapid weightloss thing and starvation mode thing. I
don't know if there are any other reasons but that's what he told me.
Personally, I was able to lose past where I left off with the VBG and got
to a "normal" weight for my height so I didn't feel disappointed
with my weightloss. Consider it a possibility but don't accept it as
gospel. Go for your goal
