Question:
How do i manage to get all the protein in

Im 2 weeks post op and im having serious problems with getting all my protein in. In the hospital i was giving shakes and they were good. At home for the first 3 days i drank the shakes but not enough to get all my protein.(im suppose to get 80 to 90 grams a day) but now every time i think of those shakes my stomach get quizy and when i drink them i gag on them and sometimes throw up. I got the proteinex and i gag and vomit on that to. Ive tried eating very high protein stuff but i cant eat enough. If anyone has any advice id be very very grateful. Im kinda getting scared to the point that i wish i wouldnt have done this because im scared of being sicker then i was before. I also have a bad liver that im scared will get worst because of this.I dont know if protien has anything to do with my liver though. Ive been feeling weak sometimes i get light headed. Is this because of low protein? Thx everyone. Oh i had the DS March 25, 2002    — Deanna B. (posted on April 10, 2002)

Hey there, sorry you're having difficulty there, have you been to GNC, they have some low-carb, high protein shakes there that are pretty good. I personally have tried the Desinger Whey Protein in Vanilla and Chocholate, they are easy to digest. I didn't find them to be gritty or chalky. Hope that helps-

At 2 weeks post you're just not going to be able to get in 90 grams a day. Make a trip to GNC, get some of the non-shake proteins (watch the sugar/carb content) that are like koolaid (check this site for suggestions). Those may go down easier. I didn't start protein supps til week 3 then I just tried a shake a day until I found something I liked. At almost 10 mos, I do 3 a day. Don't beat yourself up if at 2 weeks you're unable to do everything. Just keep trudging on and you'll be fine. Good luck and God Bless!

Go to GNC and get a atkins coconut choclate protein bar. If this thing is not a mounds bar it is as close as you will ever get. Sugar and fat are very low and 30 grams of protein make this a great chioce. I also love the atkins premixed protein drinks. They are by far the best. Good luck.

Try the Isopure zero carb drinks-they come in glass bottles, 20 oz and have 40 grams of protein. They come in Koolaid flavors, like grape, orange, apple-melon. You can find them at vitamin shoppes, maybe GNC, or can go online to purchase. They helped me thru the first few weeks, when you are queasy and nauseous alot.
