Question:
I am a CNA, how soon after lap surgery before I can lift people?
I am a part-time CNA (nurse's aid) in a nursing home. I am looking into having surgery this summer (Lap-band). I would really like to find an engineering internship for the summer (it's what I'm studying in college, I am a CNA now to help pay for school), but if that doesn't happen, I will be working full time in the nursing home. If I do have surgery, how long will it be before I can lift people (100 lbs or so)? Anyone have any experience with this? — Toni C. (posted on April 8, 2002)

My guess would be at least 6 weeks, but your doctor is the best one to ask.

After my lap RNY, my instructions were not to lift more than 15 lbs. for
the first six weeks.
