Question:
Are insurance companies paying for the AGB yet if so, which one's I live WA.

I want to have the AGB procedure but, my insurance company will not pay for WLS, It's a total exclusion. I want to know if there is a insurance company that pays and if I can obtain a policy through them. Thamks for all your help!    — Barbara W. (posted on April 3, 2002)

I am also from WA. I have Cigna PPO, and they told me that they would cover the band if it was medically necessary, but when I tried to get a pre-approval they denied me. I put in for Gastric Bypass and they approved it.

AS far as I know, we are SOL in WA. There are no pvt companies that cover WLS, and there are no group plans that have this coverage for a company with fewer than 50 employees. (and darn it, there was 6 months ago & I missed it!) You might call a few brokers who carry many "brands" to check, but all my searches have turned up zip.

I have Harvard/Pilgrim and was denied for the banding. I then appealed it and submitted paperwork from my PCP supporting reasons as to why they should re-evaluate their decision and was approved within a couple of days.

I have United Healthcare (EPO) and as far as I know they cover AGB.
