Question:
I am a little over 7 months post op and think I may have a SLD. I can eat alot and
and not feel full. I have Keystone HMO (Pennsylvania) and I just got on this insurance March 1, 2002. It is not the same insurance that covered my open rny. I wanted to know if I need a revision, will it be covered by this insurance and if the same rules apply for a revision (100 pounds overweight, comorbids) I am about 31 pounds from my personal goal and haven't gained, but haven't lost either. I was not transected. Just stapled. I am really starting to worry about this because of how much I can eat. I don't want to gain back this weight. If anyone could answer I would appreciate it. Thanks, — Dawn H. (posted on March 8, 2002)

I would not worry about a staple line disruption yet. I am also seven
months post op and surgeon says at this point you are able to eat more
since your pouch becomes more pliable allowing you to eat more. Eat only
until you are comfortably satisfied. Some of us don't get that full
feeling. Also, are you working out? Exercise is key if you want to continue
losing! Good luck only 30 lbs. from goal sounds pretty amazing to me!

I understand your situation because I had a SLD at 6 mos post op...rny. I
waited 4 mos with lots of exercise and watching my calories before I
finally did have an Upper GI to determine the reason I wasn't losing.
Actually I lost an additional 10 lbs during that time by sheer willpower!
It was a relief to see the problem and to FINALLY know it wasn't my fault!
I had a revision to transection in October last year and have lost 44 or so
more since then for a total of 95 lbs so far. I am glad I got the
transection because I would have forever worried I was going to disrupt
sometime in the future and it happened, sooner than I expected but I dealt
with it. Now, I am on my way again! The revision was a lot easier than
the original rny too. I was 60 lbs lighter than the first surgery and it
made a big difference. Good luck to you! I hope you are not disrupted but
if so, it is fixable. It takes a lot of courage because you know what the
surgery is like. You can do it if necessary! First get an upper GI to see
if there is a problem. I had a choice when I disrupted 1. I could go on
and most likely gain the wt back and be able to eat as I did before surgery
OR 2. Jump in again and get transected. I would have never been happy
with #1 choice. God bless you,

Do you have any acid in your pouch? Any change in your BM? Anything else
than a vague feeling that something isn't right? My ins paid for my
revision from SLD based on how sick I WAS pre-op and my doc's letter, which
guaranteed I'd go right back to costing them money! I only gained 12#
before I was repaired. Whew. I worried, too, that I've have to gain back
the full 100+.
