Question:
Has anyone self-paid for Duodenal Switch
I would like to hear from anyone who has self-paid for the Duodenal switch procedure. I feel that this is the right procedure for me, but have been denied by my insurance three times. I will probably pursure this matter with a lawyer, but am also considering self-pay. My concern with self-pay is getting insurance to pay for any potential complications down the line. I have BCBS and they have told me that there is a good chance they would not pay for complications that arise later from the procedure. I would love to hear thoughts from anyone who has been in this similar situation. — Terri A. (posted on March 6, 2002)

I don't have an answer, but I just wanted to say good luck :) I think DS
is worth the aggravation! I am waiting to hear from CIGNA whether I will be
approved or denied myself.

Yes, there are many people who have self-paid. You can find them on the DS
list at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/duodenalswitch/?yguid=76811202.
Hope this helps! SUPPORT BOARD: http://www.mywls.com/OpenBB

I'm probably going to self pay also...I have an HMO. The way I plan to
continue follow up is to switch insurance providers during open enrollment
at my job. There can't be any pre-existing exclusions since it's my job.
I'll be able to keep the same physicians.
