Question:
How to tell for sure if it's loose skin or still fat?
Hi, I had open RNY,distal, transected and have lost 158 # in 13 months. Still have 50 or so to go. At this point in some places im not real sure if it's still fat or just loose skin. Such as my bottom roll... it seems pretty loose but my top roll still feels firm. And talk about my arms! They look my gramma's! lol. Just wanting to know if there's a certain way to tell for sure. Thanks! — Deb H. (posted on February 25, 2002)

Deb: Only a plastic surgeon knows for sure when a particular body part is
ready to "GO". Most of us lose from the top down, so if you're
like me, your bat wings may indeed be ready for removal. I had mine done
at a little after a year postop. Waited a year or my lower body lift (the
last thing to go), having had TT, inner thigh lift, breasts, etc. at
various stages. Your plastic surgeon can detemine when you're ready, and
it's not the crucial point that I see many people taking on about. Any
good PS will be removing the fat that is attached to the skin as well, and
doing liposuction to contour the area he is working on fit into your body
better.
