Question:
Anyone tell me who to work for with good benefits, and who NEVER covers?

I know that Walmart has a big problem with covering WLS, as does walgreens. So where do i work? I do not have a HS diploma. Anything would be great.    — [Anonymous] (posted on February 22, 2002)

It's really going to depend on the exclusions in the insurance plan. You can't really say that ABC Company is a good place to work because they cover WLS. All insurance plans are different, some cover WLS, some don't, it just all depends on the insurance carrier. Good luck.

Most commercial banks have good insurance plans.

I heard Trigon is good and Cigna is not.

From my personal expirence: Kaiser is terrible, Pacific Care is terrible, and I am just switching to blue cross so I don't know about them yet. MAKE SURE YOU READ YOUR EXCLUSION POLICY! All isnurances are different, so read that part carefully!

You also need to know that what BC/BS in Florida will cover is not necessarily what BC/BS of Georgia will. Cigna might be great in some states and not so great in others. Company ABC may usually cover the surgery, but an employer can ask for the coverage to be taken out of the plan they offer their employees. This is a question that's almost impossible to answer because there are SO many variables.

HI there, Did you think about getting an individual policy perhaps. If you cannot find a place with good insurance, some states have insurance that they have to sell to everyone. Just a thought.

I have worked for Kaiser - San Diego - for 20 years (most of my adult life) they are a great employee and I have had not a bit of trouble getting approved and moved through the system- I began to attempt to get approved Dec 01 and am expecting surgery in 4-6 weeks- I think everyone has different experiences and there may not be ONE perfect answer for your question- good luck in your search

Phone companies, that's the correct answer, remember this should include cellular phone companies. depending on what state you are in look at Verizon Wireless on the web for jobs available in your state.

Aetna has an explicit statement covering surgery if medically necessary (35BMI w/co-morbs, 40 without), so unless the employer specifically writes it out, that's an option. Also, Boeing is pretty good. Universities are usually good. Good luck!

Hi! I work for DHL, which is an Air-Express Company. They have field locations throughout the United States. It isn't necessary to have a H.S. diploma in my location; however, the requirements might be slightly different in yours. What I can tell you is that they have a nationwide DHL Plan that will cover WLS as long as it is medically necessary. I have worked for this company for about 5 years. Although it is a shaky time for our industry with the recession and post-Sept. 11, I really enjoy what I do. Hope this helps.

I work at Walgreens. BCBS paid for my WLS - no problem at all.

I am on my husbands insurance policy and he works for Walgreens. Tufts approved my surgery within a week. Walgreens always has a few different plans for you to choose from in every district. When you get to enroll, ask to look at the policies and call the different ins companies to find out what their exclusions for Walgreens plans are then choose the one you can afford and that will cover surgery!

Rhonda, don't feel silly. Its still a valid question that a lot of folks who don't have descent insurance through their employer still ask. Its good information to know. Thank you!
