Question:
My dinner from last night....

Hey all, I have a question as this is one of the first times I have been scared since I had my surgery. Okay, on Monday night I got a Chicken Soft Taco (minus lettuce) from Taco Bell. I was able to eat the whole thing, except for like two small bites I gave to my dog and I was still hungry afterwards. Well, maybe not hungry, just not really satisfied. IT scared me because in the past I wasn't able to even eat the whole thing! That day, I didn't have anything for breakfast and all I had for lunch was some nachos (just chips and cheese dip)--and I didn't have any kind of a snack that day either--just water. Do you think the reason I Felt unsatisfied is because I hadn't eaten much that day or what? Like I said, it wasn't like I wanted ANOTHER taco, I just didn't have that full feeling. I am about 4 months postop. Thanks very much!    — Craig A. (posted on February 13, 2002)

I am a year and a half out- and there are days when I feel I am insatiable... and I can eat a whole taco. There are days when I feel if I eat anything over two bites, I'll get sick. There are times when I eat a normal portion (albeit a WLS portion) of food and still it won't sit well, and about 1 hour later I'll vomit. Every day is different as far as my stomach goes- it really has it's own moods. I would not be that concerned about it at 4 mos. out. As long as you are concious of what goes in (good foods!).... you are still in a learning mode with your new stomach.

I am/was a volume eater myself. There are days when 6 tacos would not be enough. I am SOOOOOOOOO thankful that I am mechanically limited. It only hits me a few times per year, but it is frustrating when it does. I usually figure I'm coming up short in some nutrient when it's that acute and drown it in protein supps til it goes away! I don't LIKE being bothered by stuff like that. I much prefer to feel satisfied with the smaller portions as I actually feel better in my pouch & in my head.

Here's my two cents worth. Probably the reason you didn't feel satisfied is cause you didn't get enough protein in for the day. You ate plent but it wasn't the right stuff, not that I'm an angel, mind you, but this is just my guess from my own experience.

I agree with a previous poster, some of your hunger was probably because you didn't have a lot of protien during the day. My experience has been if I eat something high in carbohydrates for breakfast or lunch, I'm extremely hungry the rest of the day. That probably isn't true for everyone, but you may want analyze what you've had to eat on days when hunger seems to be a problem.

Same with me, once I take sugar or carbs the ball starts rolling and doesnt' quit. If I stick with mostly proteins I do sooooo much better.
