Question:
Has anyone tried using Rogaine prior to the dreaded hair loss during weight loss?

I asked my doctor about this, and he said that you would be using the wrong
method. Rogaine is for genetic hairloss. Your hairloss in this case would
be related to anesthesia drugs, poor nutrition, etc. My opinion: get
Nature's Bounty "Vitamins for the Hair" and take them faithfully
from day one. I lost a lot of hair months 6-9, but it stopped dead in its
tracks once I started on the vitamins. It was amazing. It was like the
hair completely stopped falling out within a one-week period and started
growing back. Hope this info. helps.

I'm not sure this is the answer you are looking for, but here goes. If you
are going to lose your hair after surgery you will. I researched this
thoroughly before surgery because it was, quite honostly, the thing that
concerned me the most. People are recommending all sorts of things: biotin
supplements, GNC Hair and nails vitamins, rogain, nioxin, the list goes on.
Some people do nothing and never lose their hair. Some use one of the
supplements and don't lose any hair and attribute it to that. Some used
all of the treatments and supplements and STILL lost their hair. After
doing all my research I decided that when the time comes I wouldn't waste
my money on any "miracles", just wait and see what happens. Well
I'm 5 months post-op and down 150 lbs. and guess what - I lost my hair.
Not all of it, but enough to notice. Did I lose it because I did nothing?
I think I would have lost it anyway. Good luck to you, don't fret too
much, let nature take it's course, and remember it will grow back - I
hope:).

My hair thinned terribly 10 years ago when my ex-husband and I separated
and ultimately divorced. I started using Rogaine { and antidepressants}
and it seemed to minimize any FURTHER damage.
I had surgery Aug. 27th and now take GNC Nourishair, and am good about my
vitamins for the most part. I also started using the Rogaine again about
three weeks ago and it really seems to be minimizing the loss once again.
I am seeing less hair on the bathroom floor and my hair certainly has more
body. Obviously emotional upheavel, coupled with surgical stress, makes
for a lousy head of hair. I personally recommend the Rogaine. It will
help only as long as you use it. I have found though, that my hair DOES
NOT thin out as severely as when I started, even when not as consistent
with its application. Good Luck.
