Question:
I just heard a television ad about a new drug called Fosamax ...
It's for the prevention of bone disease (osteo-whatever). Anyone on this site tried it, taking it, ever heard of it or can or cannot recommend it? — Annie H. (posted on January 26, 2002)

I have fairly advanced osteoporosis. The #1 choice is Fosamax or Actonel.
The directions are like so: take with 8 oz of water, do not recline, lie
down, or lean for 30 min. This means to me that if it touches the stomach
lining, big trouble. And how the heck am I going to get 8 oz of water in
there all at once? The side-effects include gastric distress, ulcer OR
gastric bleed (no pain). I have known 2 people to have gastric bleed from
using this med. In the hospital for a week. Although my bones are important
to me, and I take special calcium & other minerals to increase
absorption, I only have ONE pouch and I'm afraid to forfeit it to this med.

many of the residents in the nursing home are on this. They take one pill
once a week, it has to be on an empty stomache and taken with 8 oz of
water, then you must eat 30 minutes after, and must stay upright until
after you eat. I think it is a pain in the you know what. They do make
something called miacalcin nasal spray that does the same thing the fosomax
does. Considering we already have sensitive tummys i think it would be
better. Fosomax is 70 dollars a month i am not sure of the price for the
miacalcin.
