Question:
Will they completely go away or just ease up after the WLS?
I've suffered from heel spurs for 15+ years. Took meds, had the cortisone shots, had a doctor tell me to "walk them off". Okay. I'm three months post op and down almost 50, my spurs don't hurt like they used to but they are still there. And I am walking daily. Every step hurts but the energy level---ZOOM! My question is, will the spurs completely go away eventually or what? Or will the weight loss make them feel like they don't exist? Or will I eventually be better off having them removed? Thanks. — Annie H. (posted on January 17, 2002)

I also have heel spurs caused by plantar's fasciitis. I have always been
told that it is the irritation of the fascia that causes the pain, not the
spur (even though mine is 1 1/2 inches in my right foot and looks like a
nail!). I have to tell you that I believe that because my foot pain has
disappeared! And it was not losing weight that helped, it was . . . DRUM
ROLL PLEASE . . . switching to higher heeled shoes. I can't believe it
because they always say to go with flatter shoes, but I wear a 2 to 2 1/2
inch heel in all my shoes (except tennies) and I NO LONGER HAVE FOOT PAIN!
If you can, try it. It might work for you, too! BTW, even though I do wear
higher heeled shoes, I ALWAYS buy shoes with lots of padding
(chunky-looking type, not pumps). I look so European! *giggle*
