Question:
Will Suzanne Somers dessert recipes cause dumping?

In the latest issue of Womens World there was an article regarding a new type of sweetener that Suzanne Somers has patented in order to make desserts--including chocolate, which she sells on HSN or QVC. I am a chocoholic. Has anyone tried any of her dessert products or recipes & what has been your experience? Thanks in advance for any responses.    — [Anonymous] (posted on January 7, 2002)

Everyone is different when it comes to dumping. I am almost 17 months post op and I have never dumped. I can eat small amount of absolutely anything. I have an occassional brownie or other little treat and I have never had a problem. You don't have to give up chocolate forever.

I don't know anything about Suzanne Somers sweets but I can direct you to some good chocolate. I got a box of sugar free Whitmans chocolates at Christmas and they are yummy! You can also visit your local candy store, usually in a mall, and they have a wide variety of sugar free chocolates. Another thing that I found that I really like is the Swiss Miss sugar free hot chocolate made with Splenda. It is rich and creamy. Before surgery hot choc. didn't hit the spot, now it really does.

I would think not. She sells her weightloss program and her sweetner and sugar free chocolates on Hsn. There's also a website hsn.com. Her program is low carb, sugar free and (she says) her sweetner is all natural and in compliane with Somersizing. A friend gave me her book for xmas. She also has a dessert cookbook...low carb and sugar free desserts....I'm going to buy that one myself. She has her own website which explains Somersizing....it certainly seems like it compliments wls quite well. http://www.SuzanneSomers.com

I wish I could buy her sweetener and just use that instead of sugar! My mom came home from a Suzanne Sommers cruise and she had a box of chocolates (which I didn't connect with the cruise in my mind) and she asked me if I wanted one. Well I had one... then another... and it was really good. I asked her what they were and she showed me! They were sugar free chocolate truffels sweetened with Sommersweet! I was agast. I am very picky about substitute sweeteners. I can't STAND splenda or aspertame, they're just gross. But this had me fooled. From what my mom tells me it's a fibrous part of a plant, so it passes right through you. I didn't know that the Sommersweet was sold by itself, wow. I think I'll try some of that. I would definitely reccomend it to anyone. Yum! :)
