Question:
Tried chicken nuggets....what happened?

Hey guys. Last night, I tried chicken nuggets from McDonalds. I was scared to death, but I wanted to try chicken so bad! I am two months postop. Well, I broke them up into pieces. I ate 3 nuggets with barbque sauce on the side, after all was said and done. Well then about 10 mins later I laid down on the couch and took about a 20min nap. I woke up and I just had this BLAH feeling. It wasn't like the OMG I have GOT to make myself throw up, but it was pretty uncomfortable. I felt like I was just SO SO full. I was afraid to drink I was so full. I didn't think it was a blockage. I don't know if it was because I ate one nugget too many, or one bite too many, or if I am going to have a problem digesting chicken. I'm scared, because I LOVE chicken! I don't think it was the breaded part that made me sick, because I have tried bites of the fried cheese sticks and had fried ground beef and did fine...but I don't know exactly what happened last night. Any ideas? PS--I'm doing fine now...it passed, it was just like for 3 hours I was just like UGH. Thanks for your help!    — Craig A. (posted on December 18, 2001)

Sounds to me the BBQ sauce did you in. Almost always, the 1st ingredient in BBQ sauce is High Fructose Corn Syurp. I have a feeling you were dumping.

BBQ sauce has lots of sugar in it and the Chicken Nuggets are cooked in LARD. Too much fat and sugar in one sitting I'm sure. I have a few bits of my hubby's Pastrami sandwich the other night and I was soooo sick....turns out they put Mayo on there sandwiches instead of mustard.....too much fat! When the kid scream for "McDonalds" I order the McGrilled Chicken sandwich plain and only eat half of the chicken patti...is good and I haven't had any problems with it.

Well chicken causes problems for alot of us. I would suspect that is the problem.

I think you were just dumping from the combination of BBQ sauce and a little too much chicken. Next time skip the BBQ sauce and try a bit of sprinkle on seasonings (there's zillions of flavors) and maybe only eat 2 nuggets. Good Luck!! You're gonna be fine!!

Try the wendys nuggets, they are lighter and more moist. Early on 2 were a full meal.

Hey guys. Thanks for your answers so far. I am so enjoying them. I have another question now. i thought that dumping was like a shaky feeling with diahreeah or vomiting? That's not what I had, just a REALLY full feeling like I was packed and stuff. Am I wrong? OR are there different kinds of dumping?? I love learning this stuff. Keep in touch! Happy Holidays!

It could be that you lay down so soon after eating. Maybe next time (if there is a next time!) you should sit up for a little longer than 10 minutes before you take a nap.

I love the Banquet chicken nuggets baked in the oven and have no problem with them. However, I CANNOT eat the nuggets from McDonald's. We ran through the drive through on a recent road trip and I could NOT stomach the nuggets. I know it was the breading. It's too dense and greasy. After the first two bites that made me want to hurl, my dh suggested I rip the breading off. I did so and that did the trick. I got the rest of what I ate (about 2.5 nuggets) down easily. Also, re: the BBQ sauce, I don't have a problem with any pre-made condiments, BBQ included. Everyone's different. You'll have to keep experimenting to see what works for you and in what different combinations. Good Luck!
