Question:
What if you have surgery out of state, how soon can you fly back home?

Oh I hate to hear of anyone having out of state sugeries. But you do what you have to. I've had several out of state surgeries (not WLS ones) and often a local doctor would refuse to even see me! Then when I'd have to see that same doctor in the emergency room they were pi@@ed off and made things hurt worse than they already had to. However there are alot of prejudges against the surgerie that "I had" (gender reassignment). WLS surgery should not pose those problems for you, and chances are your surgery will go just fine. But do know when you have out of state surgery it "can" pose some problems. DO HAVE SOMEONE (doctor and hospital) that is willing to work with you if you have problems. I know many people on this site blasted me saying "they have to treat you, blah blah blah." But if they don't want to treat you THEY WILL NOT, law or no law! And that is a fact that I know personally. Just make sure you have a doctor/hospital to support you NOW, BEFORE you go for the surgery. I'd hate to have out of state surgery again and not have a backup plan "before hand". And I'm finding that my personal doctors do not have any experience with WLS patients so if you come back from an out of state surgery you may run into it too. I'm not saying don't go out of state, but just have some things planned out BEFORE then so when you get back it will go smooth. You will want to HEAL, not run all over if you do have some problems. ;) Good luck! Good luck to you!

I was so worried about your out of state surgery I forgot to answer your question! You don't say if it's LAP or Open. I had the open and a car ride was painful at three days. My guess is, IF you can wait a week it would be nice. If you can't just take a really thick pillow to sit on. It may help. But you probally could fly right after you get out of the hospital but I've always found flying to be tireing, then with the terriorist scare God knows how long you would wait to get through. You won't feel like standing long, that will be a fact.
