Question:
Has anyone else experienced neuralgia type pain in their rib cage following WLS?
I have been seen by a PCP, a rheumatologist and a neurologist for SEVERE pain around my entire lower rib cage. It feels like the pain in deep in the bones and at times it feels like it's hot. They have considered post shingles neuralgia but also considering the possibility of some nerve damage from the incision or scar tissue pressing against some nerves. I am taking Oxycontin 2x a day and 600 mg of Neurontin and only get about 80% relief. This started a couple of months post-op and has gotten increasingly worse since then. I am 18 months post-op so this pain has been with me for about 14-15 months now. I cannot have an MRI right now because I had a double mastectomy in May & have expanders under my breast muscles. The pain seems to have two "trigger points" and then just radiates completely around the bottom of my rib cage. It hurts so bad I cannot wear a bra & prosthesis and even a T-shirt is too much against my skin. — Nancy G. W. (posted on November 7, 2001)
