Question:
Can people go to support groups other that the one associated with their surgeon?

I have a good surgeon (and a good support group) but the meeting is an hour away. I live just south of St. Louis.    — [Anonymous] (posted on October 28, 2001)

I think the best thing to do would be find the support group meeting you want to go to, then ask the organizers of that meeting. Some might welcome you with open arms (I can't imagine why they wouldn't) but who knows, some might be funny. I feel this isn't a question that can be answered by anyone other than the people who run the support group. Good luck

In California, all the Duodenal Switch surgeons open their support groups to anyone who is thinking of having or who has had the DS. I traveled 5 hours to my surgeon for surgery, so I don't attend his support groups. I attend a support group that is close to me, but run by another surgeon. Our CA DS surgeon's often visit each other's support groups as guest speakers. They are very supportive of each other and of all DS patients. I'm sure whoever you would want to go with would be supportive. The best thing to do is call and ask...Good luck to you!
