Question:
how fast after surgery does the weight drop off?
currently, i am 2 1/2 weeks post op, and have only lost a few pounds. (i had open rny) i have done everything the dr. has said, and i don't want to get discouraged. — [Anonymous] (posted on October 13, 2001)

There are many variables and everyone looses differently. A lot has to do
with your weight to begin with. I weighed 340 lbs on 06/11/01 when I had my
OpenVBG. By 2 1/2 weeks I'd lost 18 lbs. It's been four months now, and
I've lost 90 lbs as of yesterday.

I am two months post op and down 50 pounds. I have eaten healthy choice
and lean cuisine for lunches and tried to eat protein, although it's hard.
Everyone loses differently, but don't worry - I know that's hard. When I
had left the hospital I had retained so much fluid that I at one week post
op I weighed exactly the same as before surgery..then two weeks later, down
21 pounds. Your body will lose at its own pace.

EVERYONE is DIFFERENT! Like Barb said, your starting weight matters, and
how long you have been at the weight. I was told that sometimes when you
have maintained that weight for like 10 years is tends to stick around
longer. Example: I started at 370. The last 70 are pounds i gained 16
months before surgery. I lost that seventy in 2 months. I am at 293 now. I
stayed at this weight for years, so it'll take longer. But when i get to
like 250, I hope it will change. This is clearly here say, but for me it
has proven to be true.
