Question:
I am 18 years old had anyone had this sugery at this age or alittle bit older?

Hi Tabitha, I'm 22 years old and had lap rny on 7-23-01. I think my age may have helped contribute to speedy recovery. I can't say what it's like to be skinny since I'm only down 54 lbs and still weight 210. I can, however, say that the journey to health, both emotional and physical, is a miracle in my life. I I have already noticed changes in myself such as more self-confidence and the ability to see beauty in my physical reflection. I know that losing weight will not solve everything, but thus far the journey to a place in my life I have never experienced has been worth every moment of pain I endured as a result of this surgery.

Hi I just wanted to tell you that I have a friend (who is having surgery in January)who has a 16 year old neighbor who just had the surgery almost a month ago. I have been told she went back to school 3 wks after her surgery and is doing great. Good Luck. I am 32 and scheduled for Nov 30th, and cant wait to start my new life.

I am 10 years older than you are - 28 yrs. old - but I'm still pretty young compared to others who have had the surgery. The doctor said this was very beneficial for me. Reasons to have the WLS when you're still young: (1) You heal faster, (2) you lose faster because your metabolism is not yet shot, (3) your skin bounces back better and (4) you have the energy to take up a serious exercise program.
