I HAVE SUFFERED WITH PTC FOR OVER 4 YEARS NOW AND INSTEAD OF THE DOCTORS PLACING A SHUNT INTO BY BODY I SELECTED WLS,CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU HAVE FOUND A CURE FOR THIS THROUGH WLS. THANKS — Kimberly B. (posted on April 3, 2001)

I had PTC for 3 years. Terrible headaches and sensitivity to light. My
ears would pound from the pressure. My legs and arms would go numb from
the diamox. The cramping in my legs from this medicine was so bad
sometimes I couldn't even walk. The worse thing was that my optic nerves
were so swollen I was going to go blind in a couple years. They were
swollen to the highest-a grade 5. I went with the WLS instead of a shunt,
because I wouldn't be able to have children with the shunt. I had a RNY.
I loss 100 pounds. Let me explain to you the pros and the cons. NO more
PTC headaches at all. NO more diamox and leg cramps. NO more lumbar
puncture to see my pressure. NO more eye doctors visits every month and
having 20 lights shown in your eyes. BUT, my WLS has caused a whole new
bag of problems for me, you can read my profile. So my answer to you is
YES WLS cures PTC, but you could be like me and have a bad outcome from
surgery and have a whole new set of problems. Please E-mail any time with
your questions. I would really like to help you with this decision.
