Question:
Has anyone else had trouble with night sweats?
I'm 9 months post op and 100 lbs down. For the past couple of months I've had TERRIBLE night sweats. I wake up in a puddle. Could this be somehow related to the surgery? Am I not getting enough of something? I'm only 36, so I'm hoping it's not menopause (especially since I was hoping the surgery would help me get pregnant!) — LuAnn L. (posted on November 10, 2000)

Hi. I have night sweats occasionally too, but I'm pretty sure that it's
only when my sugar is up a little that this occurs. I was a diabetic for
several years before my wls last March and even with a rather large dose of
oral meds, it was not well controlled. Since my surgery, I've lowered my
diabetic meds considerably but still take a minimal dosage. Hopefully,
soon, I'll be able go off my meds completely and control my sugar with diet
alone. (what a miracle that will be!). But if I eat too late or eat a
meal too high in carbs or sugar, I can tell my sugar is higher than it
should be because I do have the night sweats. I don't know if you're a
diabetic or not, but if you're eating too late or eating an evening meal or
snack too high in sugars or carbs, that could be the culprit. Just to be
on the safe side, however, it really is always best to check with your
doctor. Good luck and God bless. cj
