Question:
Can I expect slower weightloss?
I am 5'2" and I had a complete hysterectomy (SP?) three yrs ago. I've got 125 lbs to lose ( I'm seeing my surgeon for a date this Thur. YEAH!) I've hear that us "shortie" can usually expect weightloss to take longer. I was wondering if the added fact that my female organs are out were going to slow me down even more? If so anyone have any suggestions for me? I want to make the most of my first six monthes, I will take all the advice I can get! Thanks Erin — Erin P. (posted on April 13, 2004)

I have a friend I met online from Tx that is similar to your age and
conditions... she's lost to size 8 and she's almost at goal @ 5
months..heck yeah you can lose it.. dont let anything or anyone stand in
your weigh *winks*

I think height has nothing to do with it. my friend Michele is barely 5'0
and she lost 160+ lbs in less than 10 mos.

Height means nothing. I am 5'4 and I went from 304 to 134 in less than a
year. I am at goal and I wear sizes 2/4. Good luck!

Hi, I'm 5'3" and started out at 215. I also had a hysterectomy. I had
my surgery 2/10/03. I've got 3 pounds to go to my goal of 120. I lost the
majority of my weight in the first six to eight months and it's only been
the last ten pounds that have been hanging around forever.
Best of luck.

I agree with the other posters. Height means nothing. I'm 5'2 and I lost
125 pounds in 10 months. As long as you watch what you eat and exercise
like crazy, the weight will come off.

Erin, I am 5'0" and I weighed 215# when I had my VBG in June 2003. I
now weigh 125# and have been there for about a month to six weeks. I have
no way of knowing if I would have lost this quickly without the gallbladder
problem and the reconstruction due to the severed bile duct. I exercise
daily and eat mostly protein which I think has helped in keeping my energy
level up as well as my weight loss. I am not sure what the statistics are
regarding the height, I just feel if you do what the doctors recommend, you
will do fine. Good luck to you in your journey. Janice Hall

Hi Erin, I'm 5'2" also, I weighed 282lbs the night before my surgery
which was on 5/15/03. Now, 10 months later i'm at 162lbs, 120lbs down. I
too had a hysterectomy about 4 yrs ago. I really don't think that had
anything to do with my weightloss. I'm happy with how much I've lost. I'd
love to lose another 30ish, but if it doesn't happen, or it happens slowly,
I'm still happy with where I am now. My advise is, stick to the basics,
High protein ,low carb, NO SWEETS, and PLENTY of water, take your vitamins,
& WALK, WALK, WALK, or at least some kind of excersize. Walking seems
to work best for me. Good Luck to you. :-)

Erin I,m 5'3" >> surgery wt. was 230 and in 1 yr. I losed 100
pounds. I was 54 yrs old at the time and had also had a hysterectomy 4 yrs
before. I have a weight loss chart by the month on a profile if you would
like you could check it out. You said you want to make the first six
months count, may I suggest walking I know that walking contribute a lot in
my weight loss. My doctor recommended walking and said that it would help
in faster weight loss. Charlene >> 2 yrs post-op 230 - 104 now 126
