Question:
Sometimes my finger tips feel numb and tingly in the morning
Sometimes my fingertips feel numb and tingly in the morning. It will happen for a few days in a row and will stop after a few hours. Then I will go days or even weeks without this happening again. Is this some type of vitamin deficiency? — Christine L. (posted on February 22, 2004)

Christine,
Are you taking B12? Numbness/Tingling in the hands and feet can be
signs of low B12 levels. If you haven't had blood work done recently you
should probably have it checked because low levels of B12 can be dangerous
and cause permanent nerve damage.

Any of the B's can cause tingling, so it's not unreasonable to ask for
B1,2,3,6, as well. B1 (thiamin) is a very common shortage among us. And
dangerous.

Aside from the possibility of a vitamin deficiency, you may be experiencing
an early sign of carpal tunnel. Do you use a computer a lot....keyboarding
or any type of repetitive motion in your job or at home? I use a computer
a lot at work and since I have been off for 4 wks (hernia surgery and
panniculectomy) I have not had any tingling. I was waking up EVERY day
with my hands asleep or tingling. Now I haven't had that happen at all.
My B-12 levels are great; however.

For me tingling in the hands or other places, (Starts in the hands FIRST)
is a sign I'm in deep do do with low potassium. On the possibility that it
is low potassium PLEASE get your blood tested right away. It is my
understanding (and I'm pretty sure I'm right on this) that you CAN have a
heart attack with low potassium. Potassium is needed by your muscles, and
your heart is a big muscle. Perhaps it's a B vitamin problem. Only a doc
can tell you. But it sure sounds like what my body does when potassium is
low. CHECK IT OUT, ASAP!
