Question:
Has anyone done the Atkins carb diet and to what success did you have?

Hi, I did the Atkins Diet for about 6 weeks. I did loose about 20 lbs. I gained it all back within 3 weeks after stopping. I stopped doing to Atkins Diet because between weeks 4 and 6 I always felt jittery and sick to my stomach. Hope this helps!

Hi. I haven't done Adkins per say, but I have been doing a high protein, low carb diet and have lost about 11 lbs in the last 5 weeks. A friend of mine has been doing Adkins, for about the last 8-10wks and has lost over 25lbs; she's not even a big girl. It's really not been all that hard, but if you don't get creative with it, it gets a bit boring.

I'm working on my 10% weight loss - have to lose 35 pounds. I tried Atkins, lost about 8 pounds in two weeks, but just couldn't stay on it -- too boring. I mean I love steak and chicken and eggs and cheese and veggies -- and I love the fact you can eat a lot -- but I've stopped because I find I was bored - and I was also eating too much. I mean the meat is "free" and I was gorging myself on it. So I've decided to switch. I'm sort of following Weight Watchers, but I'm not really counting points. I'm just eating "normal" portions. I didn't want to do Weight Watchers because I didn't want to count points. But it is a healthier program. I've just decided to eat health and eat less -- and I'm doing okay on this. I keep remembering what they stress in my support group -- diets don't work. So I'm eating meat, fruit, vegetables, starches, yogurt. I'm staying away from fried foods and fast foods. I look at it this way -- I'm so overweight that if I just eat what a "normal" person eats - without worrying about points - I'll do okay.

I started Atkins in June and have stayed on it ....well most of the time anyway. I have lost 40 pounds to date. I had to lose 10% for the surgery and I am just keeping on Atkins until my surgery in January. I do have to say that lowering my carbs has made an enormous difference in my energy level. It can get kinda boring if you dont vary things, and I know that for me the first month was the worst. I found a low carb grocery near where I live and it has helped me find more choices. It is great that many of the food companies are startign to make low carb foods...Heinz should be releasing a new low carb catsup soon and Klondike bars now come in low carb. ANyway....it can work, but I dont plan on being on Atkins for life...prob will always watch carb intake though.

If Atkins was so great I would not have needed surgery to lose weight

Well, I did Atkins when I was 6 months post-op. It was mainly as support for my DH, who needed to lose some pounds. We were on it from the end of Nov, to the end of Dec. Christmas hit and we were off!! He had pretty good success for the amount of time we were on it - he lost about 30 pounds, I lost 10 pounds pretty quick - I didn't even lose that much immediately post-op! Anyway, someone mentioned boring and that's what we found. It's also very labour intensive, at least for me. I had to cook the meat, the veggies, make the salad, etc. Then I had to pack our lunches, I felt like I was spending all night in the kitchen. I also love to cook and experiment with new recipes and didn't feel like I could do that on Atkins. I know alot of post-ops cut out the carbs, but I've never done that and feel like my weight loss has been pretty good and I don't feel deprived.
