Question:
Slow hair and nail growth
I'm 10 months post-op. I've noticed that my hair and nails are growing VERY slowly. What vitamin is deficient to cause this? Anyone have any suggestions on how to get my hair and nails to grow faster? Thanks for your help! — Christine L. (posted on February 16, 2003)

Slow hair and nail growth is not due to vitamin deficiency as far as I
know, but due to not enough protein. How much protein are you getting in
each day? JR

You may need a biotin supplement, ask a dermatologist that treats diseases
of the skin, hair, and nails about Appearex biotin supplement or chewable
prenatal vitamins. I take the appearex and it works for me. The
Dermatologist I work with also prescribes prenatal vitamins for this.

Everything is all knit together & interrealted. But things you might
check on your labs: protein, albumin, B12, folic acid...... If you are
using a protein supplement, getting B12 sublingually or by shot, using a
multi vite (2), and getting 400-800IU dry form vit E, then you're doing all
you can do. OK, there are Hair, Skin Nail vites, and I've never stopped
using them.

Hair and nail growth slow a bit naturally during the winter months. One
thing that seems to promote nail growth is buffing them. I got a small jar
of buffing cream and a chamois buffer and try to buff my nails every week.
It gives them a nice shine and the buffing action increases blood flow to
the nail bed temporarily, so it helps promote nail growth.
