Question:
Do you lose hair, no matter what, after the surgery?
I already have very thin hair and don't want to be bald after surgery. Has anyone else been in this situation and became almost bald or what? — kathy B. (posted on January 27, 2003)

Not everyone loses hair, I didn't. Just try to get in as much protein as
you're able to, and take your vitamins, it'll be fine. Good luck!

I had my surgery 7-22-02 and have concentrated on getting in my
protien(without supplements because I hate them). I haven't lost any hair
but have lost 120#! Mary

Some people say that protein and b viatmins like biotin help and some say
they don't. There are a certain number of people that have some hair loss
after anesthesia but people that lose their hair several months out is
usually because of lack of vitamins and nutrients. I have taken Real Meals
since I was about four weeks post op, it has all of the protein and the
biotin. I never lost any hair and I am 8 months post op now. I can't say
for sure if it was the supplements or I was lucky but I am not taking any
chances.

There are NO guarantees that using Biotin and Nioxin, getting lots of
protein, etc. will help prevent hair loss. It works for some people, but
not for everyone. My hair was thin to start with and I lost quite a bit.
However, it is growing back. Barbara Thompson who wrote a book about
weight loss surgery and now travels the country speaking about it was in
Denver in December. Someone asked her about hair loss and her reply was
that, in all her travels, she has yet to meet a bald woman.
