Question:
I am obsessed with the chef salad and the chicken ceasar salad from

McDonalds...I put the ranch dressing on it....is this an okay food to be eating everyday?? — tylerswife (posted on October 7, 2002)

Yes and no...
The Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad by itself has only 100 calories - with 2.5g of fat, 40g of cholesterol, 3g of carbs and 17g of protein.
However, adding that package of Ranch dressing adds 170 calories and an addition 17g of fat, 15g of cholesterol, 3 games of carbs and 0g of protein.
A better choice for dressing would be to get the fat-free herb vinaigrette - it is only 35 calories, 0g of fat and cholesterol, but 8 g of carbs.
If you have your heart set on Ranch, then get a bottle of a fat-free ranch dressing and take it with you to Mickey D's...

Oh, I forgot to mention the chef salad. 150 calories, 8g of fat, 95mg of cholestrol, 5g of carbs and 17g of protein. If you are trying to keep the salads low-fat, the grilled chicken caesar salad is your best choice, the garden salad next, the chef salad last.
The best to worst dressings - the vinaigrette, Red French Reduced Calorie, 1000 island, Honey Mustard, Caesar and Ranch.

Wow your weight loss is great.Salad is a much healthier choice for sure and you get your protein from the chicken, the only thing I would caution you on is the ranch dressing. The fat content is very high.I loved the ranch dip from Burger King,I used it on my grilled chicken until I read the nutrition chart,**17**gms of fat in that little dip tray.If you have been eating it and you are still losing, I say eat it,I don't think every day I would eat it but if you notice any weight gain or slowing down it may be from all the fat. Congrats on the great weight loss :)

Wow., Bravo. There are a lot worse things you could be addicted to! Like the ice cream from McD! That little bit of fat is fairly harmless in my rather strange opinion. With all the good stuff, it doesn't cancel it out! I just hope you're not counting on that chicken only for your protein.

Your question was so funny to me! I, too, went through a stage (about 5 months post-op) where I was a major chef salad addict. One of the few things that went down smooth and didn't make me nauseous or want to vomit. Even now, at 18 months post op, I do enjoy frequent salads. (although I'm not as obsessed as I once was!)

hiya! i too go through phases of being almost addicted to one or another type of food (right now it's oriental chicken salads with lots of almonds and wonton chips!)... while i agree the ranch isn't the best for you, i also agree that if you are still losing weight, i wouldn't stress out about it! there is a lot of protein in those salads and as long as you eat the protein foods in them you should be fine! good luck to you! kate open rny 6-14-01 pre op: 268lbs goal: 135lbs current: 126lbs
