Question:
Longer term post-ops - more painful menstral cycle since surgery?
Since open RNY on 4/5/02 my monthly cycle is very painful for about 2 or 3 days. It wasn't really that bad before surgery, but now it's pure misery. Anyone experience this? — Christine L. (posted on September 29, 2002)

I am almost 10 months post op and 2 or 3 days BEFORE my period I ACHE
REALLY BAD. Never had problems before surgery. It hurts so bad I have to
take pain meds for it.

Yowza! My cramps are a lot worse now then before surgery. I asked my doc
about it before, but I don't remember why they are worse. It really has
nothing to do with the surgery itself, I think that it just has to do with
the fact that we weigh less now, and our periods are somewhat normal again.

OMG cramps. I never had cramps before in my life since I had my Open RNY.
Now I have 2-3 periods a month, (Im being tested right now for
complications due to Norplant and weight loss by the GYN...) and it wipes
arse, but you gotta take the good with the bad :( Doc put me on Bextra for
cramps - dont know if it works yet or not, but ill keep you posted if you
wish.

I don't know if this is true or not, but my GYN said that now that our
weight is more in the "normal" range, our bodies are actually
ovulating. You could of had periods before but you body wasn't maturing an
egg. Now that your fallopian tubes have to suction that egg from the ova,
you feel your muscles tightening and relaxing to cause a gravitational
effect to suck that egg down into the uterus. This is why we have more
cramps.
