Question:
Denied, Appealed, Denied. Now What?
I have been denied by my insurance, appealed, denied again, took it up with the Human Resources, denied again. Said this is the "FINAL DECISION". I am desperate, which way do I go from here? — Karen B. (posted on September 23, 2002)

Karen, You may want to try a supplemental insurance if you can afford it.
If you are married, what insurance does your spouse have.

When a policy has an exclusion like yours does then you can be sure that
they are not going to budge. I would change your insurance company and
switch to a private policy. The key when switching is not to cancel one
policy until you get another. If you have continuous coverage with no lapse
in between them then you are not considered to have a preexisting medical
problem. Hence you should choose a company that does cover this type of
procedure. Even when paying insurance premiums it is cheaper then paying
for the full surgery. Your deductable depends on which policy you choose
and how much your premium is. If your birthday comes before your husband's
then you may consider getting insurance in your name and keep your
husband's as a secondary. They most likely would cover some hospital
expenses even though they do not cover the surgery. There are insurance
brokers who can help you find the best one to go with. Hang in there the
best you can. Some journeys entail more hills to climb and valleys to
hurdle, but in the long run you will make it to the other side.
