Question:
How do I get a certificate acknowledging my surgery to show at restaurants?

Your surgeon's office or nutritionist may provide these - it doesn't mean,
however, that the restaurant is obligated to honor it. On the other
hand, if you simply explain the situation to the waiter, they may let you
order limited portions at a reduced price or from the children's menu.
Another alternative is to order from the appetizer menu - many restaurants
(outside the fast-food type) have an excellent selection of food with
smaller portion sizes as appetizers.

This site also some restaurant cards (several different sizes) at

My doctor gives his patient little business cards that state that we have a
permanent surgery that requires we eat smaller portions. I am almost four
months out and have never used it. I eat lots of soup when I go out and
when I go out to lunch (daily) my friend orders lunch and then gives me
some of her's. I give her a $1 and life is good! LOL Take care!

You know I got one of those cards and have yet to produce it. The
restaurants I've been to have been great once I explain I am unable to eat
a normal portion. A lot of them never question me if I order from the
childrens menu, etc.
